The 2014 Wedluxe Bridal Show

I have always wanted to attend the Wedluxe Bridal Show but never had the opportunity until now.

It was being held on Sunday January 5th at the Fairmont Royal York.   I always wondered why it had to be the same weekend as the National Bridal Show at the Metro Convention Centre, which is the case every year it seems (and always like a block away – last year it was at the Ritz Carlton I believe) but maybe it’s to give the “elite” another option.

And folks, this show is for the “elite”.  If you are a bride on a budget, this might not be the place for you!

First, there is the cost of admission.   With HST it is well over $50.  That is per person folks!

But that didn’t deter anyone it seemed because the place was jammed with people!     There was a line up to get in before the show even opened.  And when I got there at around 2pm, there was a 2.5 hour wait to get to the “swag bar” (where you could go to get a few goodies from some suppliers).

Now the point of this show is that it is for the “best of the best” in Toronto wedding industry professionals.   And from what I understand, these professionals or “Glitteratti” as they are called are basically “by invitation only”.    When you see the gorgeous photoshoots in the magazines, particularly the Wedluxe Magazine, it is these photographers, florists, cake creators, etc.

It is also a show for ideas and inspiration, although truth be told, I found that a lot of the spreads were more for magazine photoshoots than for actual weddings.   But there is no question, things were pretty.

Here are some samples of the day’s eye candy…. starting with the entrance to the show…  a ceiling made entirely of flowers!   Happily allowing the scent of roses to calm the nerves of the people waiting in line for those 2.5 hours….

Then there was a very vintage booth.   Gorgeous to look at for sure… but how would you incorporate this as a whole, into your wedding?    Certain elements for sure but apart from a table out in the cocktail area for pure decor purposes at an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding…. not sure!

Then for the evening candlelit ceremony and garden reception:

Well, who could find fault with this one?    No question it was pretty gorgeous.

Then some other assorted pretty things came into view:

And oh the flowers!   Flowers, flowers everywhere!    Not a bad thing because I love flowers!

So there were some high points but a few low points as well.   Apparently this is the busiest many of the vendors had ever seen the show so it is certainly successful.   And maybe I’m just jealous, secretly desiring to be one of these “invitation only vendors”.   Well, let’s see what happens next year!
