Last year I received a call in mid-December from a groom who was desperate to recreate the wedding scene in Love Actually for his bride. It was to be a surprise for his New Year’s Eve wedding and it was only in two weeks.
He said that he thought it had been lined up but that the choir had ditched at the last minute and could I help him?
For those of you who are unfamiliar with what this is, basically it is a flash mob rendition of the Beatles “All You Need Is Love”, complete with not only a full choir but musicians of every type hidden amongst the guests at the ceremony. Check out a portion of the video:
It was a tall order but we managed to pull it together!
With the help of Raphael Roter, musician extraordinaire, we got a full choir, an organist, electric guitar, two flutes, an entire horn section…. basically perfectly recreating everything you saw in the movie!
I wish I could share the video from the actual wedding with you but unfortunately the couple prefers that this remain private. However, let me saw that there were many a teary eye in the audience and the bride was completely blown away!
So this was almost a year ago now and tonight I met Raphael again and we relived this moment, certainly a highlight of both our year in the event space. And we got to talking….. why not offer this to other couples? Maybe they don’t want to do exactly this song or do it exactly this way but making available a “musical flash mob” to other brides and grooms out there who want a “shock and awe” moment at their wedding.
Let’s make it happen!
